FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is facing charges in the Nashville area after police said he was driving under the influence and rear-ended another vehicle.

Cutler, 41, was arrested in downtown Franklin for DUI, possession of a handgun while under the influence, failure to exercise due care during a collision and implied consent, according to the Franklin Police Department.

Police said they responded to a minor crash at the 200 block of Bridge Street around 5 p.m. on Thursday. They said Cutler smelled strongly of alcohol, was slurring his words and had bloodshot eyes when they talked to him.

The department said Cutler refused sobriety tests, so police took him to a local hospital and obtained a blood sample through a search warrant. Police said they found two guns in his vehicle, including a loaded pistol.

Cutler was taken to the Williamson County Jail and given a $5,000 bond. He was released later that evening.

According to NBC 5 in Chicago, Cutler has been living in Tennessee after finishing his career in the NFL.

Cutler played for Vanderbilt University before he was drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2006. He was later traded to the Bears in 2009 and finished out his final season in 2017 with the Miami Dolphins.
