Don't worry if you notice a horrible smell coming from the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Officials are actually hoping that happens.
The zoo announced on Friday its giant titan arum plant, known as the "corpse flower," is getting ready to bloom for just the fourth time in 25 years. The plant, located in the zoo's rain forest, can grow up to 10 feet tall with the bloom usually lasting for only 24 hours.
There's one catch, though, according to the zoo: "When it blooms, it STINKS for about 24 hours!" This is to attract pollinating insects that normally go towards rotting corpses, such as carrion beetles and flesh flies. The odor has been compared to, among other things, sweaty socks and human waste.
The zoo is currently taking guesses on just when the flower will bloom.
