TOKYO, Japan — According to the Japan Meteorology Agency, Lekima has sustained winds of 100 mph with gusts to about 150 mph, and it is moving to the northwest at 8 mph.

This makes Lekima comparable to a strong Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. Flooding rain, mudslides and destructive winds will be the main life-threatening impacts from the typhoon through Saturday night, local time.

Lekima will weaken to a tropical storm late Saturday or Saturday night, local time, and continue northward along the east coast of China as a tropical storm Sunday through early next week with flooding rain.

The center is likely to pass just to the west or inland of Shanghai Saturday evening or Saturday night, local time.

Meanwhile, Krosa is a typhoon and is centered about 180 miles to the south of the island of Iwo To, Japan. It is nearly stationary, with top sustained winds of about 90 mph and gusts to 120 mph.

This makes Krosa comparable to a Category 2 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. It will track to the northwest and is expected maintain similar strength during the next several days.

Southern Japan will most likely have some impacts with the threat of damaging winds and flooding rain next week. The highest threat appears to begin sometime after this upcoming Wednesday.
