Suspect named in Maple Heights shooting that left 2 dead

Maple Heights police have named the suspect currently wanted for the murders of two people last Saturday.

Nineteen-year-old Jalen Smith is accused of shooting both Willie G. Ivy II (35) and Julius Moore (29) to death inside a residence on the 14400 block of Brunswick Ave. A third 31-year-old victim received life-threatening injuries but survived.

Warrants for aggravated murder and aggravated attempted murder are currently out for Smith, who is believed to have connections in the Cleveland and Chicago areas. Authorities say other persons of interest are being looked at in the case as well.

Smith also goes by the following names:

  • Jalen L. Smith
  • Jalen Lathan Smith
  • Lathan Smith

Smith should be considered armed and extremely dangerous, according to officials. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to immediately call the Maple Heights Police Department's Detective Bureau at (216) 587-9624.
