Texts and calls from people claiming to be able to register you to vote or send you a mail-in ballot are a scam: VERIFY

This kind of thing is a phishing scam, meant to help thieves steal your identity.

CLEVELAND — We’re in the middle of a huge election year, and scammers are taking advantage of this moment to try to steal your personal information.

THE CLAIM

You may have gotten a text message or phone call, for example, from someone claiming to be able to register you to vote, or send you a mail-in ballot. Let's VERIFY the authenticity of these attempts.

If you get a call like we described above, hang up. If it's a text, don't click on any links or reply to it.

The Ohio Secretary of State's Office confirmed to 3News that the only way to register to vote online in Ohio is through their website at VoteOhio.gov
