As smart phone technology continues to evolve and improve, Verizon announced earlier this year that 30 American cities will be getting 5G Ultra Wideband wireless technology by the end of 2019. On Thursday, the company announced the names of 20 of those cities, and Cleveland has made the list.
Verizon says the new 5G will lead to faster internet speeds, better gaming ability, high-definition video, and the ability to download movies in seconds. IN addition, Samsung's new 5G-capable Galaxy S10 phone (for the moment only available through Verizon) is now for sale via pre-order with discounts of up to $650.
Said Samsung President and CEO YH Eom:
"5G speeds will unlock a new world of possibilities for consumers and businesses — they’ll be able to stream, download, browse, and share like they never have before. From the display, to the cameras, to the speed, the Galaxy S10 5G is the most powerful Galaxy S series device we’ve ever made, and it’s designed and engineered for consumers to get the very best from their wireless network."
For a limited time, Verizon says it is waiving its $10 per month 5G access fee, and new customers can also save hundreds of dollars by trading in an old smart phone or even switching to Verizon altogether from another company. The new Galaxy S10s starts as low as $54.16 a month for a two-year plan.
Chicago and Minneapolis are currently the only two U.S. cities with Verizon 5G access, and Cleveland will be joined by Cincinnati and Columbus as Ohio localities with the new technology. However, only parts of the cities will contain 5G.
Other announced cities include:
- Atlanta
- Boston
- Charlotte
- Dallas
- Des Moines
- Denver
- Detroit
- Houston
- Indianapolis
- Kansas City
- Little Rock
- Memphis
- Phoenix
- Providence
- San Diego
- Salt Lake City
- Washington, D.C.
