A state-wide search is underway for a teen who escaped from a local detention center early Tuesday morning.
Officials with the Ohio Department of Youth Services say 16-year-old Chase Newman and 17-year-old Nathaniel Lee Jacks used a sheet to scale the fence of the Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility around 12:30 a.m.
It triggered an alarm and an all-out manhunt.
Within a few hours, police captured Newman about 5 miles away at East 138th Street and Miles Avenue, though Jacks eluded them.
Surveillance video shows the teens inside John Dewey Elementary School, which the district closed as a precaution.
Investigators believe it is possible Jacks could be headed towards Licking County, where he is from.
Channel 3 News has learned his initial crime was a non-violent one. He was admitted in January for vandalism and was scheduled to be released next month.
Newman, however, had more time to wait. His release was not until February for a charge of tampering with evidence.
It is unclear whether Newman will return to Cuyahoga Hills or if the escape bought him more time.
On Tuesday night, police were stationed at the entrances of the facility for security.
