North Ridgeville police called to assist homeowner who found raccoon sleeping in his dishwasher

File this under "things you never thought you'd have to say out loud."

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — Police departments respond to many calls, some of them stranger than others. But this one may take the cake.

North Ridgeville Police say, a resident recently called them to report a raccoon had gotten stuck in his dishwasher.

It's true.

The homeowner told them that apparently, the raccoon broke through the light in the bathroom. Then, it ransacked the man's kitchen before becoming so sleepy that it decided to take a well-deserved nap in the dishwasher.

In a post on the department's Facebook page, police say they called upon their "resident Absurd Animal Call officer, Ptlm John Metzo" who just happened to be on shift. Police say you may remember Ptlm. Metzo from other incidents, including a kangaroo that had gotten loose, and a cow that fell out of a trailer while driving down the road.

You just can not make this stuff up.

Pictures included in the department's Facebook post show the raccoon after he was captured, and some would say he's looking ashamed at his antics. Or maybe he's just upset that he got caught.

North Ridgeville Police say, it's all in a day's work -- and the raccoon was released without further. It is expected to be fine.
