CLEVELAND — Each year, Clevelanders get one chance to explore the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge & Subway, which once served as the hub for Cleveland's commuter transportation.

This year's opportunity to tour the bridge and tunnel takes place June 22, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the burning of the Cuyahoga River. Several Cleveland organizations and businesses are teaming up to raise environmental awareness to remember the anniversary.

The bridge, which connects Detroit and Superior avenues, was built in 1918 and was once the world's largest double-deck bridge. It was listed to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The subway discontinued service in 1954.

Tours on June 22 will be self-guided from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Be sure to complete this release form ahead of time.
