3News' Jim Donovan tells story of working with Howard Stern

Appearing on 850 WKNR ESPN Cleveland, 3News' Jim Donovan discussed his history working with Howard Stern.

As WKNR 850 ESPN Cleveland's bracket to determine its 'GOAT' (Greatest of All Time) enters its Sweet 16, 3News' Jim Donovan is looking like a threat to win the whole thing.

But before the Voice of the Browns was a No. 1 seed in the tournament, he was a student at Boston University, where he called games for the Terriers' hockey team on the student-run station, WTBU.

BU hockey games were often followed by “The King Schmaltz Bagel Hour," which was hosted by an up-and-coming radio host named Howard Stern. There, Donovan became a recurring guest, thanks in large part to his ability to imitate sportscaster Marv Albert.

“I used to do the hockey games on the BU student station on Saturdays," Donovan told WKNR last week. "Then his show, 'The King Schmaltz Bagel Hour' would come on right after the BU hockey games and he would always bring me on as part of the bits that he did. It was really great. I had a really great time with him. I used to really enjoy going in and doing the show with him.”

Voting for the WKNR 850 'GOAT' tournament resume on Tuesday, May 19.
