BEACHWOOD, Ohio — *Editor's Note: The video in the player above is from a previous report.
The Friday night lights have been turned off for one Northeast Ohio School District due to COVID-19 precautions.
The Beachwood Bison were set to take on the Orange Lions Friday evening to kick off the 2021 football season. However, officials were forced to cancel the game due to a suspected case of COVID-19 on Beachwood's team.
The Beachwood City Schools District confirmed the news that the game had been canceled with an updated flyer on their Facebook Page. The district did not provide any information on the next steps for the team.
Despite the cancelation, the Orange Lions will still get the opportunity to take the field. Officials with Orange High School sent the following message to faculty, staff, students and community members Friday afternoon, announcing that Orange will now be playing at Toronto High School at 7:30 p.m.
"Orange High School recently received notification from Beachwood High School that this evening's varsity football game is cancelled due to a suspected COVID case on the Beachwood H.S. team. In order to provide an opportunity for OHS student-athletes to compete, OHS will now be playing at Toronto (OH) High School at 7:30pm.
We apologize for any inconvenience this change may create; however, we are happy that our students will still have the opportunity to compete in the game and participate in Marching Band, Lionettes, and Cheer, preserving 10% of their season."
