BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Bowling Green State University announced the passing of one of their most well-known alumni on Sunday.
Mark Wells, who was a star forward for the Falcons hockey team in the 1970 and played hockey for the gold-medal winning United States Olympic team, passed away.
Wells played at Bowling Green from 1975 to 1979.
One of Wells teammates on the Falcons squad, Ken Morrow, was also a member of the gold medal Olympic team, which famously beat the Russians in Lake Placid in 1980 in what is affectionately described as the “Miracle on Ice”.
Although selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1977 and signing with the Montreal Canadiens organization, Wells never played a game in the NHL and retired in 1982.
Wells, who was born St. Clair Shores, Michigan in 1957, was elected to the Bowling Green State University Hall of Fame in 1992.
