How the public can try out for the Cleveland Charge

Cleveland Charge will be hosting an open tryout for the public to compete for a chance to make the team's roster.

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — The Cleveland Charge, the G-League affiliate of the Cleveland Cavaliers, will be hosting an open tryout this weekend for the public to compete for a chance to make the team's 2024-25 roster.

The tryout is an annual event at which players of all skill sets can show off their skills for a chance to make the team.

The tryouts will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at HoopTech, 7717 Victory Lane, North Ridgeville.

In the past, players like forward Dibaji Walker, a Cleveland State University grad, and forward Gabe Osabuoihen attended the tryout and made the team.

There is a $200 fee to register, and you can complete registration here

First-year head coach Chris Darnell said this is what his staff is looking for at the tryouts:

"Good basketball players, you know, guys that can obviously dribble pass and shoot, but really people that understand how to play a team game," Darnell said. "Understand how to play with other people on the floor have a high IQ and really people that just want to compete and win."

3News' David Greenberg ran through some of the drills players will do on Saturday. Watch his skills—or lack thereof—in the video at the top of the story.
