CLEVELAND — The storybook season for the John Carroll University women’s soccer program continues.
After reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 22 years, the Blue Streaks are headed to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in program history following a stunning 1-0 victory over No. 8 Case Western Reserve University in the second round of the tournament.
John Carroll's victory in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament came after the Blue Streaks got off to a fast start with freshman Abby Walker tallying her first goal of the season in the 25th minute, putting the Blue Streaks up 1-0.
The lone goal would remain the only one in the contest.
Case Western continued to persist offensively throughout the contest outshooting the Blue Streaks 32 to 9, but couldn't find a way past John Carroll's freshman goalkeeper Madeline Martin Kosier.
Kosier played flawlessly making 14 saves, a career-high for the Ohio Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year.
With the win, John Carroll will play the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Sweet Sixteen at a date and time that is to be determined.
With the loss, the 2022 NCAA Tournament runner-up, Case Western, finishes their season with a record of 12-2-4.
