Ex-Ohio State assistant Zach Smith has not been contacted by school's Urban Meyer probe

New details have emerged regarding Ohio State's investigation into how Urban Meyer handled accusations of domestic violence made against ex-Buckeyes wide receivers coach Zach Smith.

Investigators the Ohio State Board of Trustees leading the inquiry into Urban Meyer's handling of domestic violence allegations made against Zach Smith have yet to reach out to the since-fired assistant coach, Smith's attorney told USA TODAY Sports on Thursday.

The same investigators, however, have had "very preliminary communications" with Powell, Ohio, police officials, a city spokesperson told USA TODAY Sports.

Brad Koffel, Smith's attorney, said in a text message that the investigators have not sought to interview his client and, as of Thursday afternoon, there were no plans for Smith to be interviewed as part of the investigation, which the school announced Sunday is expected to be wrapped up within 14 days.

Smith's wife, Courtney, came forward last month to allege she was abused by Zach Smith on multiple occasions and a 2015 incident where she reported to Powell police she'd been physically assaulted was known to many inside Ohio State's athletic department.

Megan Canavan, the director of communications for the City of Powell, said the Ohio State investigators reached out of police officials on Tuesday, although "it was too early to tell why they were looking for or how they wanted to proceed."
