Game preview

In a college football season that's been unlike any other before it, Ohio State finds itself one win away from winning its first College Football Playoff championship in six years. Despite having five regular-season games cancelled and missing multiple players due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), pandemic, the Buckeyes and quarterback Justin Fields appeared to be playing their best football of the season in their upset victory over Clemson in the semifinals.

Beating top-ranked Alabama, however, will be no easy task, as the Crimson Tide lay claim to three of the most talented offensive players in the country in Heisman Trophy-winning wide receiver DeVonta Smith, quarterback Mac Jones and running back Najee Harris. Additionally, star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle is questionable for Monday night's game and could return to play in his first game since Oct. 17.

Should Alabama win, it would mark the seventh national championship of head coach Nick Saban's career and sixth with the Crimson Tide. Meanwhile, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is seeking his first national championship in what is just his second full season in charge of the Buckeyes.
