Dwayne Haskins' stint at as Ohio State's starting quarterback was historic.
It was also short.
Less than a week after leading the Buckeyes to a victory over Washington in the Rose Bowl, the reigning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year announced he'll be entering the 2019 NFL Draft.
Haskins' decision hardly comes as a surprise.
In 14 games, the redshirt sophomore completed 70.0 percent of his passes for Big Ten single-season records of 4,831 yards and 50 touchdowns. Selected as a Heisman Trophy finalist before ultimately finishing third in voting, Haskins earned first-team All-Big Ten honors and was named the league's quarterback and offensive player of the year, in addition to receiving the Chicago Tribune's Silver Football, which is awarded each season to the Big Ten's top player.
With Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert opting to return to school for 2019, the 6-foot-3, 220-pound is considered by many to be the top quarterback prospect in this year's draft. Although none of the teams picking before the New York Giants at No. 6 appear to be in immediate need of a signal-caller, a franchise could trade up in an effort to secure Haskins' services.
On his most recent big board, ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. ranked Haskins as his No. 7 overall prospect.
"There's a lot to like about him as a prospect: he has a big arm, shows great anticipation on his throws, takes care of the ball and has solid athleticism (though he's not a great runner)," Kiper wrote. "The high ceiling is there, and that's what NFL teams want."
In addition to Haskins, Ohio State defensive tackle and Cleveland native Dre'Mont Jones announced his decision to declare for the draft. Safety Jordan Fuller, meanwhile, has announced that he'll be returning to Columbus for his senior season.
The 2019 NFL Draft will take place run April 25-27 from Nashville, Tenn.
