COLUMBUS, Ohio — Taylor Mikesell scored a career-high 33 points, Jacy Sheldon added 24 points with 10 assists and Ohio State beat No. 12 Maryland 95-89 Thursday night.
Mikesell topped her previous high of 32, set against Illinois on Jan. 6, with two free throws in the closing seconds. Playing against her former team, the Stark County native was 11 of 13 from the field — including five straight makes from 3-point range — and 6 of 6 at the line. She scored 12 points in the fourth quarter while Sheldon scored 15 to reach 1,000 points for her career.
The Buckeyes (14-3, 6-2) raced out to a 25-15 through the first quarter and never trailed after that on their way to their fifth straight win. Thursday's game also marked their first victory over a ranked opponent in almost two years.
Maryland (12-6, 4-3) was without head coach Brenda Frese, who is away following the death of her father. Angel Reese led the Terrapins with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Ohio State will next face Rutgers on the road Sunday afternoon.
