CLEVELAND — “You Said It" is a reader participation column based on the premise that if you don't laugh about Cleveland sports you'll cry.
And that if you do laugh about Cleveland sports, you might still end up crying. But at least friends and family might occasionally like being around you.
YOU SAID IT
Bud: Good to hear the Steelers won’t ban Myles Garrett jerseys at Heinz Field. I guess. I mean, I’m not sure it’s a good idea to go over there dressed like that unless you’re naive enough to think the spirit of Thanksgiving will carry into Sunday — Bill.
I think it’s perfectly reasonable to go over there in a Garrett jersey or a “Pittsburgh Started It” t-shirt, provided you’re Stipe Miocic.
Bud: I get that the Browns want to support Myles Garrett. But if his suspension ends up costing them the playoffs and/or it turns out he unfairly charged another player with racism, won’t Dee Haslam regret wearing that “95” hat on the field Sunday? — Don.
Not if it makes people forget she jumped into Lake Erie with Hue Jackson.
Bud: Why do Freddie Kitchens' answers sound like they are coming from a Magic 8 Ball? — Michael Sarro.
I’d put your question to him, but my guess is he’d just say, “Ask again later.”
Bud: You can’t tell me college basketball isn’t the best sport when you see a school like Stephen F. Austin beat Duke. I nominate the headline: “Steve Austin beats stone cold Duke.” — Joey W.
An unbelievable upset. I’d have liked Stephen F. Austin’s chances better if it were playing Duke in chess, and the Lumberjacks would open as a 26-move underdog in that one.
Bud: Mike Tomlin said his expectations for third-string quarterback Devlin “Duck” Hodges against the Browns was that he “just not kill us.” Maybe Browns coaches should’ve set the bar that high for all the QBs who lost to the Steelers over the years? — Tim, C-Town.
In defense of those coaches, since Tim Couch’s role in the rivalry ended the Browns pretty much have led the league in being dead on arrival.
Bud: Tristan Thompson thinks that the Cavs will retire Kyrie's jersey at some time in the future. Do you think he will show up for the ceremony? — Vince G., Cincinnati.
Can’t wait for the touching acceptance speech when Kyrie says he’s halfway to reaching his life long goal of having his jersey retired in a real live sports city.
Bud: It was rumored that Hue Jackson wanted the Bengals coaching job and the Bengals are now 0-11. Are you sure he didn’t get that job? — Brent Collins, Strongsville.
Can’t say. Like Hue, I’ll have to look at the film.
Bud: Who’ll be the new pitchman for ‘Impossible Whoppers’? Myles Garrett or Mason Rudolph? — Jim Corrigan, Fairview Park.
