CLEVELAND — “You Said It" is a reader participation column based on the premise that if you don't laugh about Cleveland sports you'll cry.
And that if you do laugh about Cleveland sports, you might still end up crying. But at least friends and family might occasionally like being around you.
YOU SAID IT
Bud: Does John Beilein’s leaving before his first season is up only fortify Cleveland’s embarrassing stronghold on ‘one & done’? — Jim Corrigan, Fairview Park.
Remember the Oregon Territory dispute we learned about in school? Given the number of games Beilein coached and the losses sustained, his time here will be remembered in history as “54-40 and Flight.”
Bud: Maybe it’s just me. But MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred using a dismissive term for the World Series trophy to justify not vacating the Astros title made me feel better that the Indians haven’t won that doorstop since 1948. — Tim, C-Town.
The commissioner’s friends report feeling the same way about their own divorces upon recalling the poignant moment at Manfred’s marriage ceremony when he looked into his bride’s eyes and said, “With this piece of metal I thee wed.”
Bud: Hiring John Beilein was a joke from the start. What does that say about Koby Altman? He should follow Beilein out the door. The Cavs management almost makes the Browns organization look professional. I said almost. — Jay Shulman.
I know. And just think. Mike Brown and David Blatt were available.
Bud: Doesn't it look like the Browns playing the Browns in every XFL game? — Michael Sarro.
Not the ones where the offense scores in the red zone.
Bud: When Browns and Cavaliers coaches are fired, besides a compensation package for their one year of service, do they also get a copy of the movie “Titanic?” — Brent Collins, Strongsville.
Not all. Some get a copy of “One for the Money” and others have taken home “All About the Benjamins.”
Bud: Browns: What’s worse than having to fire our coach after one disappointing season?
Cavs: Hold my beer…Vince G, Cincinnati.
It may not look like the Cavs have a plan but sources tell me J.B. Bickerstaff serving as interim will give the team time to entice 79-year old Larry Brown to take his 16th head coaching job.
Bud: The Browns have hired their first female coach, Callie Brownson, as chief of staff for Kevin Stefanski. Katie Sowers with the 49ers is the first woman to coach in the Super Bowl. Maybe it’s time for You Said It to have a few female contributors. — Jim Walsh, Olmsted Falls.
Well, if we round up all the significant others of YSI contributors that would add up to a few.
Bud: Is it true Rob Manfred once called the “Blue Period” of Pablo Picasso a “bad mood he took a long time to walk off.” — Bill.
The final You Said It submission every week is called a “winner” for lack of a better term.
