CLEVELAND — Well, where do we even begin? Like, seriously?!
That was as bad an opener as I can remember, as bad a game as I can remember. Well, maybe other than that one where DTR found out he was starting like five minutes before kickoff against the Ravens last year, but I mean, give me a break! This was so bad in so many ways.
The Browns were out-played today by the Cowboys — out-hustled, out-coached, you name it, out-everything'd. That's not even a word, and I don't care.
Your Cleveland Browns got throttled in their season opener, 33-17. Dallas? A better team. Period — more prepared, more ready for the moment.
It's just one game, and we need to balance that. Week 1 is always overreaction week: When your team wins, you're Super Bowl-bound. When your team loses, you just want to fire everybody.
It's natural to overreact a bit, OK? It's natural to get upset. That's what we do as sports fans.
But you also have to trust your eyes. You know football, you watch football, I do too. Does Deshaun Watson resemble a franchise quarterback that you gave up so much for and paid a fortune to?
Without Nick Chubb, you're not really fearing anybody in the ground attack. The offensive line is beat up, and I'm not going to go at the Browns' defense too much tonight, but they looked more like the defense that got blown out in the playoff game in Houston last year than the one that helped carry this team so many times last season.
It's Week 1; the Browns are 0-1. I'm not going to play the blame game. Maybe they could've approached the preseason a little bit differently, but I'm not panicking, really. I'm not nervous... yet.
But if this season is anywhere near as bad as today was, we're in for a long, long fall and winter here in Cleveland, and I'm not talking about the weather. I really hope that's not the case.
