CLEVELAND — Wow.
I mean, can you believe it? Can you believe it??
The Cleveland Browns stun the San Francisco 49ers 19-17 down at the stadium. They improve to 3-2 on the season, while the high-powered Niners suffer their first loss of the season.
How? How is that even possible, right? No Deshaun Watson, the undefeated 49ers, the Browns started a quarterback that was technically a fourth-stringer!
P.J. Walker, a former XFL player, a 28-year-old that had only made seven starts prior to today's game? The Browns signed him in late August to their practice squad. Oddsmakers in Vegas listed the Browns as a double-digit underdog today with a $230 million quarterback sitting on the sidelines for the second straight week with a shoulder injury, and that's an injury situation that has been handled so poorly by the way.
But, no. We're not going there. Not, OK?
Wins cover up your defects in sports, your warts, your deficiencies. And today, this victory over one of the best teams in the NFL does exactly that for us.
We can forget, for now. Today, we can celebrate. Today, we can enjoy.
I'm with you on the Deshaun Watson injury, OK? The lack of communication and differentiating between "medically cleared" and "functionably able," that still gives me a headache.
But not today; not this week. Nope.
This is an amazing win for the Browns. A defense that never gave in, I've got to give special teams big credit, too, a head coach and a staff that had this team prepared despite looking overmatched in every phase of the game before kickoff — the Browns needed this kind of win more than you and I need oxygen to breathe, and they got it.
Every sign was pointed against them today. Nobody gave them any chance at all (yours truly included). Let's enjoy this one, let it soak it, let's celebrate it.
It's a great day to be a Cleveland Browns fan. I know you don't take wins on Sundays for granted.
