HILLIARD, Ohio — Northeast Ohio high school sports' greatest dynasty just keeps thundering along.
The Brecksville-Broadview Heights gymnastics team won the OHSAA state championship for an incredible 20th consecutive year, with its total score of 148.825 besting Olentangy Berlin this weekend by less than a full point. The Bees were boosted by an event-best score of 37.850 on the vault, turned in by Gianni Ravagnani (9.725), Rachel Kelly (9.550), Emily Gromek (9.450), and Ella Shaheen (9.125).
Fittingly, Ravagnani also won the individual vault competition, one year after tying for first in the event with her teammate Erin Delahunty. She out-paced her team score with a 9.850, a mere 0.025 better than Padua Franciscan's Tessa Brousek.
While Brousek didn't win any of the four specialty events, her three seconds and a third were more than good enough to give her the prestigious all-around championship with a score of 38.500. Per the high school, that's the second-highest score in all-around history.
Elsewhere, Magnificat's Keira Leneghan was state champion in the uneven bars with a 9.525 score, and Brunswick's Bree Vargo won the balance beam title at 9.625.
