Brooklyn High School has selected Sean Belveal as its next varsity football head coach, the school announced late last week.
Belveal served as Cleveland Central Catholic football’s offensive coordinator for the past three seasons.
“Sean's passion and knowledge for the game stood out in our interview process,” Brooklyn athletic director Ryan Kelber said. “We feel that Sean's diverse background and positive teaching and coaching philosophy will be embraced by the students here at Brooklyn High School.”
During the recently completed winter sports season, Belveal guided the school’s varsity girls basketball team as its head coach, after working as an assistant in the program in prior years.
Belveal began his coaching career in Santa Cruz, California, in 1997 and has also coached in Portland, Oregon.
The Hurricanes’ new gridiron leader currently teaches social studies at Cleveland College Preparatory School, a school in the ICAN Schools network.
Belveal replaces Jay O’Hanlon, who resigned from the coaching post in December after three seasons at the helm.
Brooklyn posted a 1-9 overall record, including a winless Patriot Athletic Conference Stripes Division mark, in 2015.
