Mogadore ready for playoff rematch with Kirtland

The Mogadore Wildcats will hope to keep their season alive as they take on undefeated Kirtland in the regional championship game this Friday.

MOGADORE, Ohio -- The Mogadore Wildcats will face a familiar foe in the Division VI regional championship game this Friday.

After beating McDonald 28-7 last week, the 'Cats have moved on to face 12-0 Kirtland for what will be our WKYC.com Game of the Week. The Hornets knocked Mogadore out of the playoffs last season in the second round on their way to a state championship game appearance.

Mogadore head coach Matt Adorni is hoping the rematch will go better for his team.

"We feel like we are a great program. We know they've been a great program for the better part of a decade. It's not so much revenge. Our kids do a great job here at Mogadore of taking every week serious and every opponent serious," Adorni said.

The Wildcats only lost one game in the regular season, falling in week three to Linsly. Kirtland has yet to lose a game this year and their defense is giving up less than three points per game.

"We've just got to play our best. Go as hard as we can every play. Play like a Mogadore football team can and we'll be good," senior linebacker and running back Gavin Christy said.

Friday's game will kickoff at 7 p.m. at Veterans Stadium in Aurora. You can hear all of the action with Dave DeNatale and Matt Florjancic right here at WKYC.com, the WKYC app, and also on Facebook Live.
