Gilmour entered the tournament ranked No. 1 in Division II and cruised through the district and regional brackets without losing a set. They finally dropped one in the state semifinals against Lake Catholic, but won the next three to set up the final showdown against the Spartan's at Wright State University's Nutter Center.

The Lancers took the first two sets, with All-Ohio honoree Kathryn Randorf dominating with six kills in each. She finished with a match-high 33, but Roger Bacon's Kelsey Niesen had 19 to lead the Spartans back and force a decisive fifth set.

With Gilmour up 14-12 and needing one more point to win, Niesen went for the kill, but had her shot blocked by Sabrina Gremm and Kayla Channell. The Spartans couldn't recover the rebound, and the ball fell to the court as the Lancers erupted in celebration.

Gilmour finishes with a 25-3 record, including a 14-match winning streak to end the season. Roger Bacon concludes with a 22-6 mark, and the program is still in search of its first state volleyball championship since 2005.
