DAYTON, Ohio — Does Richmond Heights have the best high school basketball team in Ohio, regardless of division?
The Spartans certainly have a legitimate claim to make, having now won 49 consecutive games. The most recent came via a 70-26 domination of Convoy Crestview Sunday in Dayton, giving the program its second consecutive OHSAA D-IV boys championship.
Heights (29-0) blew through the season winning just four games by single digits, and boasted an average margin of victory of almost 40 points in the state tournament. It was more of the same this weekend, with Ohio State recruit Dorian Jones (only a sophomore) finishing with 25 points and seven 3-pointers. Jeremy Wilson added 12 points and nine rebounds, while Hosea Steele Jr. dished out five assists.
The Knights (25-4) found themselves overwhelmed, making only 31.4% of their shots and turning the ball over 18 times. Gavin Etzler had a team-high seven points.
Richmond Heights wraps up the season as the only unbeaten team in OHSAA, and has not lost on the court since Jan. 2, 2022. Oh yeah: Most of Quentin Rogers' core will be back next year, too, with their sights set on potentially breaking Middletown's Ohio record of 76 straight victories.
