Thanks in large part to the special teams heroics of Jake Rogers, the Highland Hornets took the inaugural WKYC.com High School Football Game of the Week 28-7 over the Brunswick Blue Devils.
Rogers had a 74-yard punt return for a touchdown, as well as a 43-yard return that set up an earlier score. Jack McGinty, Brady Linder (on an interception return), and Bryce Profitt also found the endzone for Highland (1-0), while the only Brunswick (0-1) TD came on an Anthony Staimpel kickoff return in the second quarter.
Dave "Dino" DeNatale and Matt Florjancic called the action live, and you can listen to it again below.
MENTOR 42, ST EDWARD 39
Despite four total touchdowns from quarterback Garrett Dzuro (who later left the game with an injury), the Eagles (0-1) could not avenge last year's state playoff loss. Brian Trobel led the way in the high-scoring affair with four rushing TDs, as the Cardinals (1-0) get ready for St. Ignatius next week.
EUCLID 42, GLENVILLE 7
The Panthers (1-0) blew open a 21-17 halftime lead by scoring three unanswered touchdowns. Quarterback Dion Valentine threw for four scores, including two to Treshawn Luton.
SOLON 25, AURORA 0
The Comets (1-0) did nothing but soar on this night, jumping out to an 18-0 halftime lead and holding on from there. Sophomore running back Khalil Eichelberger scored all three touchdowns.
