PERRY, Ohio — Listen to our broadcast of the game in the player above!
Another Friday night, another decisive win for Kirtland.
The Hornets held off the Perry Pirates 30-6 in the WKYC.com High School Football Game of the Week. In doing so, the team extended its winning streak to 47 in a row since the start of 2018, the fourth-longest active streak in the nation.
As usual, the Kirtland (6-0) running game controlled the pace of play, with senior Mason Rus tallying 161 yards and quarterback Ramon Lescano scoring three touchdowns on the ground. Tommy Gogolin added another late to put the game away.
Perry (5-2) actually had their chances to fight back, especially after Brayden Richards found Brock Sivon to make it 14-6 in the second quarter. The margin stood at just 17-6 at halftime, but Richard threw two costly interceptions and the Hornet defense held the Pirates to only 179 total yards on the night.
Besides extending Kirtland’s winning streak, the loss snaps Perry’s string of consecutive Chagrin Valley Conference victories that dated back to 2015. This was the first meeting between the two Lake County schools since 2001, as both had previously played in separate CVC divisions for decades.
The Hornets will host Ashtabula Lakeside next Friday, while the Pirates will head to Orange. Both teams are highly likely to make the playoffs in both Division V and VI, respectively.
