AURORA, Ohio — The Brecksville-Broadview Heights football renaissance continues.
After coming back from an 0-10 season by making the playoffs last year, the Bees began 2020 in grand style by taking down the Aurora Greenmen 35-21 in WKYC.com's High School Football Game of the Week. Garrett Kubitz led the way with three rushing touchdowns while the defense kept Aurora off the scoreboard for much of the night.
The game was tied 0-0 after the first quarter before Kubitz opened things up with his first score. Jack Cardaman took the ensuing kickoff to the house to even things again, but Kubitz would score two more times to give BBH a 21-7 halftime lead.
The defense held the rest of the way, save for a couple of late scores. Greenmen quarterback Alex Moore had two touchdown passes, but also threw a costly interception to stunt a possible comeback. Cardaman caught one of the scores, while Ryan Weber caught the other.
Ethan VanRumppe made it 28-7 in the third, and after the Greenmen pulled it to within two scored the Bees marched down the field to both extend their lead and eat the clock. The ball was fumbled at the goal line, but Luke Ganim pounced on it for the touchdown.
Brecksville-Broadview Heights will head home to play Hudson next week, while Aurora will face Revere on the road.
