Hudson City Schools is set, pending board approval next week, to name Jeff Gough interim head coach of the Explorers’ varsity football team for the upcoming season.

Ron Wright, who has guided the tem for the past five seasons, asked for and was granted a one-year leave of absence from his coaching duties due to personal and family health concerns and commitments.

Gough has served as the team’s defensive coordinator since 2011 and has been on Hudson’s football staff since 2007.

“I am ecstatic to have Jeff Gough transition to the position of interim head coach,” Hudson athletic director Ray Ebersole said in a prepared statement. “Gough is an outstanding individual who possesses tremendous character and integrity.”

Gough, a 2007 Hudson graduate, is an alum of the school’s gridiron program. He also played one year of college football at Ashland University.

As a product of our schools and program, he is very aware of our priorities for student-athletes and he embraces our overall philosophy regarding the role of the football program in relationship to our comprehensive interscholastic athletic program,” Ebersole said. “We are looking forward to working with Jeff as we build upon the success we have established in the Hudson football program.”
