The Norwalk High School boys basketball team defeated Columbus Bishop Watterson 65-58 in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II state championship game on Saturday at Ohio State's Value City Arena to claim the program's first state title.

The Truckers built a double-digit halftime lead by making more than 54 percent of their shots from the field in the first two quarters and did just enough in the second half to hold off the defending state champions in the second half.

Norwalk (29-1) was led offensively by senior Ben Haraway, who tallied 29 points, three assists and three blocks. Fellow senior Jeff Thomas added 18 points.

Bishop Watterson (26-3) seniors Matt Hughes (23 points), Cody Calhoun (15) and Matt Lehmann (11) led the Eagles in scoring.

This season marked Norwalk's first boys basketball state tournament appearance.
