St. Joseph Academy has hired Dale Dawson as its next head softball coach, the school announced on Wednesday.
Dawson spent the past seven seasons (2009-15) in charge of the softball program at Edison High School in Milan, Ohio.
In his seven seasons at the helm of the Chargers, Dawson compiled a record of 168-43. Edison won seven straight sectional titles, four district titles, had three regional runner-up finishes and made a trip to the state final four in 2012. Last season, he was named the Norwalk Umpires Association's sportsmanship award winner and earned recognition as the Northwest District Division II Coach of the Year.
"The addition of Mr. Dawson as our head softball coach is a big boost for our program," St. Joseph Academy athletic director John Manuszak said in a prepared statement. "Mr. Dawson developed a program at Edison that was successful on the diamond while also creating and maintaining a positive culture within the program."
Dawson previously coached softball at Southview High School in Lorain.
"I am honored to be the new head softball coach at St. Joseph Academy," Dawson said in a prepared statement. "I had the opportunity to meet with several members of the team and could tell they share the same dedication for softball and drive to be successful that I do."
The new SJA coach is a Vermilion resident and has been on the Vermilion Local Schools Board of Education since 2008.
