Student-athlete Shout-out: Nordonia senior softball players

The Knights' softball team, which has made two consecutive regional tournament appearances, is being led by seniors Jolene Teller, Holly Groff and Hannah Perrine this spring.

Channel 3 Sports is proud to continue its “Student-athlete Shout out” feature series during the 2015-16 school year. Each installment will spotlight the recent accomplishments of a deserving Northeast Ohio high school athlete.

Building off of a record-setting 2015 season, Nordonia High School’s varsity softball team is off to a 5-1 start this spring.

The Knights, who have made two consecutive regional tournament appearances, are being led by seniors Jolene Teller, Holly Groff and Hannah Perrine.

Teller, the team’s captain and second baseman, boasts a .667 batting average and a .704 on-base percentage.

In Wednesday night’s Suburban League matchup against Wadsworth, Teller went 5-for-6 at the plate, just hours after officially signing her National Latter of Intent to play college softball at Mercyhurst University.

Teller owns a 3.8 cumulative GPA.

Groff, the team’s leadoff hitter and starting shortstop, currently owns a .458 batting average and a .519 on-base percentage. She has hit three home runs.

Nordonia softball coach Amie Cormell described the Malone University signee as “the best athlete I’ve coached in my 12 years of coaching.”

Perrine, the team’s first baseman, possesses a .455 batting average and a .500 on-base percentage.

“Hannah is such a physically strong, athletic lady,” Cormell said. “She is super smart with a GPA over 4.0.”

The Knights achieved a program-best 22 wins in 2015 and won its first conference championship.
