Channel 3 Sports is proud to continue its “Student-athlete Shout out” feature series during the 2016-17 school year. Each installment will spotlight the recent accomplishments of a deserving Northeast Ohio high school athlete.
St. Edward senior cornerback Melvin Jackson
St. Edward High School senior Melvin Jackson has made an impact in multiple phases of the game in helping the Eagles start the season 3-0.
Jackson made the decisive play in the Eagles’ 10-7 Week 2 win at St. Edward when he blocked a 25-yard field goal attempt by the Knights that would have tied the game with 47 seconds left in regulation. Earlier in the contest, the 6-foot, 170-pound corner recorded an interception.
Last week, Jackson continued his stellar defense and special teams’ play last week. He intercepted another pass and assisted on two blocked punts that set up scores in the Eagles’ 41-0 win.
One of the state’s best secondary defenders, Jackson currently holds eight scholarship offers.
St. Edward, which is ranked first in the latest Associated Press Division I state poll, will travel to play Cincinnati Elder on Saturday night. The host Panthers own a 2-1 record.
