Channel 3 Sports is proud to continue its “Student-athlete Shout out” feature series during the 2015-16 school year. Each installment will spotlight the recent accomplishments of a deserving Northeast Ohio high school athlete.
West Geauga softball player Kayla Lorenzo
West Geauga High School softball player Kayla Lorenzo established herself as one of the area’s top underclassmen this spring by maintaining a .481 batting average and a .518 on-base percentage. The second-year varsity starter also tallied 34 RBIs while catching every Wolverines’ pitch of the season en route to earning first-team all-conference honors.
“This past season, you could see that Kayla was on a mission to get West G softball on the right track,” head coach Bob Leppla said. “Starting in the fall through winter ball and this spring, Kayla led us with her work ethic and enthusiasm.”
Lorenzo hit .425 as freshman with 28 RBIs, but West Geauga posted a 2-17 overall record and a 0-10 mark in Chagrin Valley Conference play. This spring, the team posted an 11-11 overall record and an 8-6 conference mark.
“In every level of any sport, you need a foundation for a team to be successful,” Leppla said. “Kayla is that foundation for the West Geauga softball team. She is all about the team and a great person to be around.”
