John Garber has been hired as Twinsburg High School’s next varsity girls soccer head coach, district superintendent Kathryn Powers announced on Wednesday.
No stranger to the school or its athletic department, Garber is the social studies department chair at Twinsburg High and most recently served as an assistant coach for the Tigers’ boys soccer program.
“He knows our student-athletes and will work diligently to ensure that they not only do well on the playing field, but will also work to ensure they perform at their highest individual academic level,” Powers said in a prepared statement. “We feel Coach Garber is the right coach for our student-athletes, one who will build on the success the girls’ Tiger soccer program has achieved in the past and will take the program to the next level.”

The experienced soccer coach is excited for the new role.
“I am eager to continue serving the Twinsburg City School District, as well as the quality of student-athletes and level of play within the community,” Garber said in a prepared statement. “The position as varsity head girls soccer coach affords me the opportunity to share my passion for the game of soccer with the student-athletes that I teach.”
Garber was recommended by a selection committee comprised of parents, community members and district staff members.
“During the interview selection process, the committee was seeking a coach who would bring a new level of energy and enthusiasm to the girls’ Tiger soccer program,” Twinsburg athletic director Brian Fantone said in a prepared statement. “In addition, we wanted a coach who possessed a wealth of playing and coaching experience.”
Garber starred on the soccer pitch at John Carroll University as a goalkeeper and, upon graduation, played semi-professionally with the AFC Cleveland Royals of the National Premier Soccer League.
The respected coach holds a USSF National “D” Coaching License an a NSCAA Goalkeeping Level 1 Diploma. Garber is certified by the National Federation of State High School Associations.
Garber replaces Chris Gentile, who resigned following the 2015 season, citing a desire to spend more time with his family. In his five seasons at the helm, he led the Tigers to three Northeast Ohio Conference titles.
A tigerstrong welcome to Coach John Garber...our new girls head/varsity soccer coach!! Looking forward to a great Fall season!
