CLEVELAND — Citing “poor weather forecasts,” the 2023 Cleveland Firefighters Hockey Conference has been relocated to a different venue.
Officials say the hockey conference, which is scheduled for Thursday, has been moved to the C.E. Orr Ice Arena at 22550 Milton Ave. in Euclid “thanks to the help of our brothers at Euclid Fire Fighters Local 337.”
It was originally slated to take place at FirstEnergy Stadium.
The decision to relocate the event comes as rain and potential storms are expected to impact Northeast Ohio throughout the day Thursday before much colder air returns during the overnight hours.
"We will eventually have a period where it’s pretty much a soaker from late morning into early afternoon," explains 3News meteorologist Hollie Strano.
The conference will include various games between police and fire hockey teams, according to the Cleveland Fire Fighters IAFF Local 93.
Despite the event being moved, organizers say there will still be “ice time” scheduled at FirstEnergy Stadium on Thursday, March 2 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
“Turning this into a win, we now get two great days of hockey!” organizers said.
