UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Cuyahoga Gold Bowl is staying on the east side.
John Carroll prevailed 21-7 in Saturday's football rivalry matchup with Baldwin Wallace. It's the 10th straight victory for the Blue Streaks over the Yellow Jackets, a run that dates back to 2013.
JCU (1-1, 1-0 Ohio Athletic Conference) only had 314 yards of offense compared to BW's 342, but prevailed thanks to three interceptions on defense. The biggest blow came late in the fourth quarter, when JonMarcus Roland picked off Joey Marousek's pass and took it 48 yards for a touchdown to give the Streaks a 21-0 lead they would not relinquish.
John Carroll quarterback Joe Collins threw for 157 and a 17-yard TD to Mentor native Tadas Tatarunas that got the scoring started. Aurora product Evan McVay also rushed for 101 yards and a score.
Besides the INT, Marousek finished the afternoon with 201 yards passing and a 64-yard touchdown to Mikel Love. Running QB Reese Wamer had 34 yards on the ground for BW (1-2, 1-1), but also threw a pair of picks.
With the OAC schedule now well underway, JCU will head to nationally ranked Heidelberg next Saturday, while BW will host Ohio Northern.
