CLEVELAND — It's a big week for the Cleveland Guardians!
First up... The team takes on the Detroit Tigers in a doubleheader Monday.
Then on Tuesday, the ALC first-place Guardians host their 4th annual Giveathon. Since 2019, the event has raised nearly $750,000 for local charities connected to the team. This year, the hope is to raise more than $1,000,000.
Austin Controulis, spokesperson for the Cleveland Guardians, visited WKYC Studios early Monday morning to talk about the Giveathon and a number of events happening this week to promote the team's CLE Inspires initiative.
WKYC will broadcast Tuesday's game against the Tigers. Donations of $100 or more toward Cleveland Guardians Charities during the broadcast, which starts at 6 p.m., will be eligible for an autographed ball from a 2022 Guardians player.
Tuesday's Giveathon is a part of CLE Inspires Week powered by Kaulig Giving. According to a release, the week-long celebration "focuses on sharing the Cleveland Guardians community efforts, spotlighting Guardians beneficiaries, and fundraising for Cleveland Guardians Charities."
“We look forward this coming week to once again spotlight our efforts in the community and raise money to support the mission of Cleveland Guardians Charities to prepare youth for success,” Vice President of Communications and Community Impact Curtis Danburg said in a release. “We appreciate the tremendous partnerships with Kaulig Giving, Bally Sports Great Lakes and WKYC to tell the inspirational stories of the youth we support on an annual basis. We also encourage our fans to be “Guardians of the Community” by engaging in this Tuesday’s Giveathon game on BSGL and WKYC or bidding on our online auction all week.”
In addition to Tuesday's Giveathon, other events taking place this week include an auction featuring autographed items from former and present players, as well as Tom Hanks, a Fields for the Future Field and Davey Tree Swing for the Trees Announcement on Aug. 17 and the CGC Golf Outing presented by Guardians Community Partners on Aug. 18.
