CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Guardians were dealt another tough blow in their rollercoaster second half of the season that has them clinging to an ever decreasing lead in the AL Central.

Cobb to the IL

The phrase "can't catch a break" may be an understatement for the 2024 version of the Guardians' pitching rotation. Starter Alex Cobb has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a fractured nail on his right hand. Cobb, an All-Star in 2023 before injuries derailed his season, picked up his first win in nearly a year last week against the Chicago Cubs helping the Guardians pick up a series sweep.

Left-handed reliever Anthony Gose has been recalled in place of Cobb's roster spot.

To open up a spot on the 40-man roster for Gose, reliever Sam Hentges was transferred to the 60-day injured list. Hentges has not appeared in a game since July 10, after which he was placed on the injured list with shoulder inflammation.

Top prospect promoted

Top prospect Chase DeLauter continues his quick ascent through the Guardians' minor league system. The Guardians announced that the outfielder will be called up from Double-A Akron to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday. In 33 games played between rookie ball and Akron, DeLauter sports a .252 average with 6 home runs, 17 RBI, a .329 OBP and .782 OPS.
