Cleveland Guardians 2B Andrés Giménez, LF Steven Kwan win AL Gold Gloves at respective positions for 2nd straight year

Since the award's inception in 1957, 20 different Cleveland players have now taken home a total of 41 Gold Gloves.

CLEVELAND — As Guardians fans, we're blessed to see both Andrés Giménez and Steven Kwan dazzle on the diamond day after day.

Now, the baseball world is once again making sure their skills are properly recognized.

Giménez and Kwan on Sunday were each named Rawlings American League Gold Glove Award winners at their respective positions of second base and left field. It's the second consecutive season the two teammates have earned the honors.

A year after his breakout All-Star campaign in 2022, Giménez was just as stellar in the field in 2023, leading all major league infielders with 23 defensive runs saved and 401 assists along with an AL-best 4.54 range factor (average combined number of putouts and assists) per nine innings. He and Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar are the only Cleveland second basemen with multiple Gold Gloves.

A Rookie of the Year finalist a season ago, Kwan had some stiff Gold Glove competition this time around, but still beat out Baltimore's Austin Hays and Toronto's Daulton Varsho for the award. The 26-year-old led all AL left fielders with 344 putouts, a 2.36 range factor, and nine outs above average.

Third baseman José Ramírez was also a finalist at third base, but lost out to the Blue Jays' Matt Chapman. However, Ramírez is still up for an AL Silver Slugger Award at his position.

Since the award's inception in 1957, 20 different Cleveland players have now taken home a total of 41 Gold Gloves. Just last year, pitcher Shane Bieber and center fielder Myles Straw joined Giménez and Kwan as recipients.
