Sights and sounds: Cleveland Guardians beat Chicago White Sox in home opener

Triston McKenzie and José Ramírez guided the team to a 4-0 victory, their fifth in a row on the young season.

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Guardians are back in town! 

The Guards defeated the division rival Chicago White Sox 4-0 in their 2024 home opener, improving their record to 8-2 under new manager Stephen Vogt. Triston McKenzie tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings to pick up his first win in almost two years, and José Ramírez belted his second home run of the season to put Cleveland in control.

3:13 p.m. The total solar eclipse arrives at Progressive Field

2:40 p.m. Lots of fans waiting outside of Progressive Field to get into the ballpark and watch the total solar eclipse

2:15 p.m. While Cleveland waits to be under totality for the solar eclipse, the Guardians players could be seen on the field warming up and getting ready to take on the White Sox later this afternoon. 

1:35 p.m. In a web-only "Total Eclipse of the Park" special interview, our Jim Donovan caught up with Cleveland Guardians President Chris Antonetti on the field.
