Cleveland Guardians' Josh Naylor, David Fry, Emmanuel Clase named to 2024 AL All Star team

Naylor and Fry both head to the All Star game for the first time in their careers.

CLEVELAND — Last week, José Ramírez and Steven Kwan were voted to represent the Cleveland Guardians as starters in the 2024 All Star Game. Today, they found out that they'll be joined by three more teammates when they make the trip to Texas for the Midsummer Classic.

First baseman Josh Naylor, super-utility man David Fry and closer Emmanuel Clase were all announced as American League reserves for the All Star Game.

Naylor and Fry are both first-time All Star selections. Clase will head to the All Star game for the third time in the last four years.

Clase was a no-brainer choice as he has been arguably the best reliever in baseball this year. He leads the American League in saves with 27 and sports an otherworldly 0.65 era in 42 appearances.

Josh Naylor picked up where he left off in 2023 as he continues to thrive as the Guardians' cleanup man/José Ramírez protection. Having already set a career high in home runs with 21 through 83 games, a .498 slugging percentage and an OPS of .817. Naylor is also on track to set a career high in RBIs (97) with 65 on the season.

David Fry is perhaps one of the biggest surprises of the 2024 MLB season. While there was some question whether he would make the final roster out of spring training, he has turned the Guardians' faith into an All Star selection. Fry is batting .305 with 8 home runs, 33 RBIs, a .508 slugging percentage and a .920 OPS.

Fry's value extends beyond the stats above having played at least three games each of the following positions: catcher, right field, left field, first base, third base and DH.
