CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Guardians are going to play for the American League pennant!
The Guards bested the division rival Detroit Tigers in five games two win a thrilling AL Division Series. Still the No. 2 seed on their side of the playoff bracket, the next stop is the AL Championship Series, and a date with the top-seeded New York Yankees.
The Bronx Bombers got here by dispatching the Kansas City Royals in four games in their ALDS. It will mark the seventh postseason meeting between New York and Cleveland, with the Yanks taking four of the previous six meetings including the last three straight.
This will also be the Guardians' sixth ALCS trip in franchise history. Their last appearance came in 2016, when the team then known as the Indians defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in five games to advance to the World Series.
Since the Yankees own the better record between the two clubs, they'll have the home-field advantage in the series, which begins Monday, Oct. 14 at Yankee Stadium. The Guards will host Games 3, 4, and potentially 5 at Progressive Field from Oct. 17-19.
