Preview

Coming off their two-game sweep of the Rays, the Guardians will look to advance to the American League Wild Card Series for the first time since 2016 when they face the A.L.'s No. 2 seed, the Yankees. But while dominant pitching performances from starters Shane Bieber and Triston McKenzie -- as well as the Guardians' bullpen -- allowed them to sweep Tampa in a series in which it scored just three total runs, Cleveland will now be tasked with keeping pace with the American League's best scoring offense in New York.

The Yankees are headlined by likely A.L. MVP Aaron Judge, who hit a league-record 62 home runs this past season. New York's lineup also includes designated hitter/outfielder Giancarlo Stanton, first baseman Anthony Rizzo and second baseman Gleyber Torres.

From a pitching standpoint, Cleveland will likely benefit from having the ability to reset its rotation with Bieber in Game 2 and McKenzie in Game 3, respectively. But if the Guardians' postseason run is going to continue, they're likely going to need to have a more consistent offense than they showed in the Wild Card round.
