CLEVELAND β The Cleveland Guardians selected James Madison University Outfielder Chase DeLauter with the 16th overall pick in the first round of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft.
DeLauter spent three seasons at James Madison compiling a .420 batting average with 15 home runs and 70 RBI in his 66 game career. He started 24 games in the 2022 season batting .437 with 8 home runs, 35 RBI, 8 doubles, 10 stolen bases and an OPS of 1.404. He shattered a James Madison on base percentage record producing a .578 OBP.
DeLauter made 10 appearances as a pitcher in his first 2 seasons at James Madison, however he did not make a pitching appearance in the 2022 season.
With the Guardians selection of DeLauter, he becomes the first draft pick from James Madison University to be taken in the first round of the MLB Draft.
