CLEVELAND — *EDITOR'S NOTE: The above video is from our previous story about Peter.
The Guardians' 2022 season has been a special one for Cleveland fans everywhere, including one in particular who has shown a special devotion to the team.
Peter Knab, of Cleveland Heights, has attended more than 120 games of the club's games this year at various ballparks across the country. Driven by the confidence instilled in him by his late father, the 26-year-old has not let his cerebral palsy hold him back, and is inspiring others facing similar challenges.
"You are not an inconvenience, you know?" he told 3News' Lindsay Buckingham in a recent interview when asked what his message is. "I'm going to do something until I exhaust all the possible options that I [can]."
Knab was even in Texas last month when the Guards clinched the American League Central Division title. Now, the organization has decided to pay him back for his remarkable efforts, giving him the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Friday's Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Progressive Field.
The playoff opener will be a celebration at the Corner of Carnegie and Ontario, with all fans attending encouraged to "Rock Your Red." Renowned area vocalist Dan Polk will sing the national anthem (as he first did at old Cleveland Municipal Stadium back in 1992), and famous Cleveland bleacher drummer John Adams will yell out the traditional "Play Ball!" via a video recording.
The start time for Friday is set for 12:07 p.m., as is Game 2 on Saturday, where legendary former Indians manager Mike Hargrove will throw out the first ball. Should there be a winner-take-all Game 3 on Sunday, beloved two-time All-Star Andre Thornton will get the nod.
