CLEVELAND — Did you have a personalized brick outside of Progressive Field?
As the Cleveland Guardians announced plans to remove the decaying pavers from Gateway Plaza outside of the left field entrance, the team is giving fans the opportunity to retrieve their bricks this Friday and Saturday only.
The brick pickup times are listed as follows:
- Friday, April 28: 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
- Saturday, April 29: 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.
“We will begin Monday to remove all bricks and begin repaving the plaza. This weekend would be the only chance for recovering your brick,” says Curtis Danburg, Vice President of Communications for the Cleveland Guardians.
Danburg tells 3News it’s important to note that a majority of the bricks aren’t in good condition “so there are no guarantees.”
For those coming to get their bricks, the Guardians say parking is free on Larry Doby Way.
Earlier this week, the team told 3News the bricks were years beyond their expected lifespan after going up for sale in 1993 to help fund the Bob Feller statue outside of the ballpark.
"We tried to preserve as many as possible," Danburg told 3News’ Neil Fischer earlier this week. "Ten years after, you can see they're tarnished, they're decaying and they're breaking down and becoming a safety hazard."
The team plans to do a virtual gallery online with pictures of all the bricks.
