CLEVELAND — Earlier this week, it appeared the Cleveland Indians had set their 30-man roster for Opening Day.
But just ahead of Friday night's first pitch against the Kansas City Royals, the team made a tweak, recalling top prospect Daniel Johnson from its Alternate Training Site.
The addition of Johnson appears to be the result of Cleveland leaving starting pitcher Zach Plesac off the 30-man roster, as he won't be making his 2020 debut until next week. Upon adding Plesac to the roster, the Indians will have to send another player down to the Alternate Training Site.
Heading into Friday night's season opener, Cleveland's Opening Day roster is as follows:
Catchers
- Sandy Leon
- Roberto Perez
Infielders
- Christian Arroyo
- Yu Chang
- Mike Freeman
- Cesar Hernandez
- Francisco Lindor
- Jose Ramirez
- Carlos Santana
Outfielders

- Daniel Johnson
- Jordan Luplow
- Oscar Mercado
- Tyler Naquin
- Franmil Reyes
- Domingo Santana

- Brad Hand
- Cam Hill

Additionally, the following 10 players help complete the team's 40-man roster and are eligible to be called up at any time:
- OF Delino DeShields Jr. (Injured list)
